OPTIONAL PAGEANT WEEKEND CONTESTS

You will receive more detailed information on these contests in Pageant Manual.
Contestants are NOT REQUIRED to compete in the contests listed below. These contests will be judged by a separate panel of judges from the overall panel of judges and have no bearing on who is chosen as the queen.

TALENT – $50 per Talent Entry - (All Age Divisions)
Winner: Cash Award, Trophy or Plaque.
Time of Contest: - Day 1 - no admission charge
Dress: - Your own choice. The outfit should be appropriate for the type of talent and your age group. Be sure it is not sexy or revealing.
Rules: - Length of performance: up to 2 minutes only.
Pageant Furnishes: - Piano, cassette tape player, CD player, microphone and operator.
Talent Permitted: - Only live talent presentations will be permitted.
You Bring: - Your own accompanist if needed, CD or two cassette tapes (in case one breaks). Cassette tape should be of good quality, cued to the right starting place for the performance. The tape must have your name written on it and be labeled as to which side is to be played.

SPEECH – $50 Entry Fee – (Coed, Teen, Junior Teen and Preteen Divisions only)
Winner: Cash Award, Trophy or Plaque.
Time of Contest: - Day 1 - no admission charge
Dress: - Official T-Shirt & Shorts Outfit
Theme: - “How I can help my community”, “YOUTH - Pride of the Present, Hope of the Future”, “How I Can Make the World a Better Place” OR “My Favorite American (must be famous).”
Rules: - Length of Speech: No longer than 100 words, including small words but excluding the title. Contestants with speeches over 100 words will be allowed to perform but will be disqualified from placing in the speech contest. Parents, teachers, friends or anyone may help you write your speech. Speech must be memorized; be expressive and know your speech well. Bring two typed (double spaced) copies to pageant registration. Before turning in the copies of your speech, count the words in your speech and write that number in the upper right hand corner of the pages.

MISS PHOTOGENIC – $50 per Photogenic Entry – (All Age Divisions)
Winner: Cash Award, Trophy or Plaque.
“Miss Photogenic” will be selected from 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 photograph(s) of the contestant which she will bring to pageant registration. The photo(s) may be black and white or color (they do equally well). Head shots generally work best. The pictures will be available for you to pick up the second day of the pageant after the judging has taken place. Tips for the Photogenic contest will follow in the Pageant Manual.

MODEL – $50 per entry – (All Age Divisions)
Winner: Cash Award, Trophy or Plaque.
Time of Contest: – Day 1 – no admission charge
Dress: – Your own choice. Contestants will model age-appropriate “sporty” attire that has a casual tailored look. No sports related outfits (ex: tennis, cheer, dance, soccer, etc.) may be worn.
Rules: – Length of routine: up to 45 seconds. Free-style modeling to upbeat music, the feel is positive, not pouty or demure.
Pageant Furnishes: – Stage, emcee, and background music.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT – No Entry Fee
(All Age Divisions)
A trophy or plaque will be awarded to winners in each of these two contests.
These forms will be sent to you in your Newsletter #2. You will turn these in at pageant registration. Any contestant who would like to be considered for one or both of these awards should follow instructions on the forms. Begin doing volunteer work now and/or working on your grades if you wish to compete in either or both of these contests. You will truly grow as an individual as you volunteer to help others and set goals to improve your grades. Set your goals and reach for them!

SPIRIT OF AMERICA AWARD (All Age Divisions)
This trophy is presented to contestants who give extra effort to become involved in a variety of activities at the pageant. You earn the Spirit of America Award by earning at least FOUR or more “credits” which come from participating in your choice of the following optional contests: Miss Victory Contest, photogenic, talent, speech, sportswear, the Miss Hostess/advertising contest, and Ticket Sales. There is no additional fee to participate in this program (other than the fees of the individual optional contests that you choose).

MISS HOSTESS (All Age Divisions)
This is an earned award for the most advertising sold for the Pageant Program Book. Advertising sales are in no way required and have no bearing on the outcome of the pageant itself. Specific information and a special advertising information booklet will be included with your Newsletter #2. EVERY contestant who participates in the Miss Hostess/advertising contest will receive a special trophy on pageant weekend.
